Today was the first day back from summer vacation for most
students. You could feel the excitement a
new school year brings. Each day begins with
a Primary and Secondary morning assembly, held in two different parts of the
building. Teachers led the assembly to
welcome students back. Each assembly has
a prayer, meditation, message to build student character, and presents
information on current events. Robyn and I were introduced and welcomed by
the school community. Students and staff
were very kind and went out of their way to teach us about their school, and
involve us in different lessons and activities.
Then, after meeting with school leaders, I observed a
commerce class and spoke with students about the business career pathways my students
are preparing to work in after graduation.
I also observed a social studies class.
Teachers follow a daily lesson plan guide book which is formatted
similar to universal design for learning.
Robyn and I also took a tour of the complete campus for Grades Pre-K
through Grade 12. Students showed a
great deal of respect to each other and staff. The primary learning style I
observed today was visual, auditory with route memorization of facts. I had the opportunity to meet with several
teachers and share teaching methodologies used to promote experiential learning
at the high school level.
