Today the TGC's India cohort group split into two or three person
teams to travel to different schools in India.
Robyn and I were off to Hyderabad to spend a week at Jubilee Hills
Public School. We flew into Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport. As a marketing teacher,
I snapped a photo of the baggage claim area, which was adorned with brand
messages and mannequins wearing saris. I
wonder when this interesting use of advertising space will catch on in other airports.
After checking into our hotel we met in person with Sree Devi,
the Academic Director and our host for the week at Jubilee Hills Public
Schools. Sree was welcoming, shared her
passion for education, and reviewed the itinerary with us. Saturday and Sunday we
were given free time to tour Hyderabad. Then Monday, our first day at school, will be the first day back from summer vacation for many students, as school was closed due to blistering heat, over 110°F. What a weather shift, compared to the polar vortex that canceled school for us, and turned a Lake Michigan lighthouse into an icicle.
On location in India, we exchanged educational ideas, shared best practices and developed ways to facilitate students in becoming global citizens. Please click on the link below for details on the JHPS teacher exchange program. http://jhpublicschool.com/index.php/teacher-exchange-programme/
